How To Be Less Dependent On Sugar?

    WatsonBy WatsonMarch 17, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

If you consume sweets and cannot seem to get rid of the sugar cravings, you are not alone. You may be surprised to know that the average person in the United States consumes about 22 spoons of sugar daily, which is not good for health. Although sugar has never been considered a healthy food, it can actually harm you.

If you are looking for ways to consume less sugar, the good news is that it is possible. Most of the time, sugar cravings are driven by physical and emotional forces. You may pick up a cookie when you want energy or simply when hungry. Consulting with an online nutrition coach can help you learn effective ways to eliminate these urges and switch to a healthier diet.

How to become less dependent on sugar?

    • Learn how to read labels.

One of the best ways to ensure you consume less sugar is by reading the labels or ingredient lists of the items you purchase in a grocery store. Sugar has various names, such as maltose, molasses, sucrose, raw sugar, syrup, honey, and fruit juice concentrates. You can also see how much sugar is in a product by reading the “Nutrition Facts label.”

A gram of sugar has four calories, so even if a product contains 20 grams of sugar, you will consume 80 calories. Moreover, this would be from consuming the sugar alone and not counting the other ingredients in the product.

    • Do not skip your breakfast.

It is important not to skip your breakfast. You should also ensure that your breakfast contains protein and fiber. Most people who were successful in losing weight start their day with the right kind of breakfast. According to studies, people who skip breakfast are four times more likely to become overweight than breakfast eaters.

    • Do not think of artificial sweeteners as an option.

In the process of cutting out sugar, many people consume artificial sweeteners like aspartame or saccharin, but that may not be the best thing to do. Artificial sweeteners provide a sweet taste without sugar’s calories and harmful effects. However, that also means that you won’t get the energy that sugar provides, and thus, you get hungry quickly. Therefore, it is not healthy to become completely dependent on it.

Since sugar is found, in one form or another, in so many food items nowadays, it can be tricky to avoid it. However, it is certainly not impossible with the right motivation and expert consultation.
