What are the Most Common Truvada Injuries?

    WatsonBy WatsonApril 25, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

Truvada is a combination of two medications, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, and emtricitabine. This medication is used as pre-exposure prophylaxis or PrEP in order to prevent HIV infection. The most common and severe side effects that can occur from taking Truvada are injuries such as nausea and gastrointestinal problems. Nausea is the most common problem for users of Truvada, with other possible symptoms including abdominal pain and diarrhea. While PrEP does decrease the risk of HIV, it does not eliminate it completely.

However, some serious and long-term side effects have been reported in association with the consumption of Truvada. Although Truvada is still available, it is highly suggested to speak with your doctor before taking this medication. In some cases, Truvada is serious enough to require emergency medical attention. If you already have developed any medical conditions after the intake of Truvada, the better is to seek a Chicago Truvada lawyer at the earliest. Truvada intake most commonly affects kidneys and bones.

We will now see more into kidney and bone side effects due to Truvada consumption.

    • Kidney side effects

Truvada affects your kidneys by decreasing kidney function and causing kidney damage. Unfortunately, kidney problems are a common side effect of many other medications, so it is recommended that you consult your doctor before taking Truvada. The most common side effects of Truvada that affect the kidneys are decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and renal insufficiency. GFR refers to how fast your kidneys can filter blood and excrete waste products; renal insufficiency means reduced kidney function.

In other cases, there is a risk of developing interstitial nephritis caused by glomerulonephritis, an autoimmune disease that attacks the kidneys. Interstitial nephritis refers to the inflammation of glomeruli in the kidneys while glomerulonephritis is a condition that targets both glomeruli and other structures in the kidney.

    • Bone side effects

Truvada affects bones by decreasing bone density and causing bone fractures. Bone fractures are not only dangerous and painful, but they can also be expensive. Bone fractures during your Truvada intake are most likely to occur in the hip, shoulder, or ankle and may be accompanied by swelling in the affected area.

Investigations are highly recommended when you start taking these pills because they can prevent possible side effects if they occur. If you are already taking Truvada and have been experiencing bone fractures, it is very important to seek medical advice. Some vital information that you must provide your doctor is your complete medical history, an explanation of how you were taking Truvada and the length of time for which you took them.
