    Common Causes of Male Infertility

    WatsonBy WatsonJanuary 24, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

Male infertility is when a man has difficulties getting a female partner after having repeated unprotected sex over a year. About one out of three infertility cases are due to a man. Most cases of men’s infertility are treatable. The main symptom of male infertility Mountain View is the inability to conceive a child, but you may also have issues with sexual function, pain or a lump in the testicle area, or abnormal breast growth. Symptoms mostly happen if you have underlying conditions like inherited disorder, hormonal imbalance, or dilated veins around your testicles. There are many causes of male infertility, including:

    Varicocele

Varicocele is the inflammation of the veins draining your testicles. Doctors do not know the specific cause of varicocele, but it is usually related to abnormal blood flow. Varicocele causes infertility by reducing the quantity and quality of your sperm. It makes testicles too warm to produce sperm. In most cases, varicocele is treatable.

    Reproductive system infections

Infections like inflammation of the epididymis or the testicles and sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and gonorrhea can lead to infertility. These conditions can interfere with sperm production and health or cause scarring, leading to blockage of sperm passage. Infections can lead to testicular damage, but sometimes you can retrieve your sperm.

    Tumors

Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors can affect your male reproductive parts, causing infertility. The tumors can directly affect glands that release reproduction hormones, like the pituitary gland, interfering with the reproduction process. In some instances, treatments for cancer, like radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery, can affect male fertility.

    Sexual intercourse disorders

Many sexual intercourse problems can affect your fertility, including difficulties maintaining an erection for sufficient sex, premature ejaculation, or painful intercourse. Anatomical abnormalities such as an opening on your urethra below your penis can affect your sex, leading to infertility.

    Hormonal imbalances

Abnormalities in your hormonal systems, like the hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenal glands, can cause infertility. Low testosterone can lead to reduced sperm production and sex drive leading to infertility. Too low hormone levels cause poor sperm growth.

Defects of tubule that transport sperms

The male reproductive system has numerous tubules that carry sperm. Your tubules can block due to different causes like surgical injuries, trauma, infections, or abnormal development. Blockage happens at any part of your reproductive organs, including testicles, epididymis, or ejaculatory ducts.

    Environmental factors

Overexposure to environmental factors like excess heat, radiation, industrial chemicals, and heavy metals such as lead can affect your sperm. Exposure to these elements can reduce sperm production or sperm function leading to infertility. Long-term effects of environmental factors can permanently decrease sperm production.

    Health and lifestyle habits

Poor health and certain lifestyle habits can cause hormonal changes, decrease the quality and quantity of your sperm or lead to reproductive organs disorders, causing infertility. Excessive alcohol consumption, drug abuse, and tobacco smoking are common habits that can affect your infertility.
