If you are a fan of the sport, you are probably interested in the latest soccer news. There are a few upcoming competitions that you might be interested in. One of them is the United States’ oldest national soccer tournament, the Asian Cup. Another is the FIFA Women’s World Cup Picks.
Asian Cup
If you’re interested in the latest soccer news, you’ll want to keep an eye on the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. It’s the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Asia and will feature 24 national teams.
It was expected that China would host the tournament in 2023, but a scourge known as COVID-19 forced the nation to hand the tournament over to Qatar. However, there are still questions over whether the AFC will award the next AFC Asian Cup to another country, and if it will change the date.
One of the major changes is that the World Cup will move away from the heat of the Gulf states. This move was required to accommodate FIFA’s reorganisation of the international calendar.
Another change is that the 2023 Asian Cup will not be held in the traditional January-July months, and will most likely be played in mid-2023 or early-2024. This will allow the event to coincide with the 2023/24 European club soccer season.
FIFA Women’s World Cup
If you are a fan of women’s football, then you’re excited about the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup. Held in Australia and New Zealand, it promises to be an unforgettable event. The 2023 Women’s World Cup will be the first tournament to feature dedicated Team Base Camps.
The tournament will have a record number of matches, with a total of 64. Teams will play in eight groups of four. Each team will play a home and away game. At the end of each group, the top two teams will advance to the knockout round.
Aside from a record amount of matches, the Women’s World Cup will also be held in 10 different stadiums throughout Australia and New Zealand. Four of the stadiums will be located in New Zealand and six in Australia.
U.S. Men’s National Team
There’s a definite air of excitement around the United States Men’s National Team. Despite missing out on the World Cup, the team will be back in action soon.
The USMNT held tryouts over the weekend in Florida. Players from 15 different college programs made the 23-player roster. MLS players will likely form the majority of the squad.
There are a number of talented players on the USMNT roster. But the center midfield position is a question mark. With several proven starters, the depth of this area will need some rotation in 2026.
Several young players should make a difference in the future. One of those players is Weston McKennie. He is 24 years old and is a promising prospect. A player who could become a world-class talent by the time the 2026 Gold Cup rolls around.
USMNT broadcasting deal with Warner Bros.
The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) will begin a new broadcasting deal with Warner Bros. Discovery Sports (formerly Turner Sports) in January. This will make the new sports media platform the exclusive media provider of USMNT matches through 2023.
Among the highlights of the agreement is the fact that the USMNT will have more than 20 matches on Turner’s ESPN+ platform, including the men’s World Cup qualifiers in 2023. As well as home and away games from the team’s senior men’s and women’s teams, U.S. Soccer friendlies, and special events around the World Cup and the Olympics.
For the first time, USMNT games will be livestreamed on an over-the-top service. Fans will be able to watch half of all matches on TNT or TBS, while the other half will be available exclusively on HBO Max. Moreover, replays will be available immediately after postgame coverage.
United States’ oldest ongoing national soccer competition kicks off in earnest
The United States’ oldest national soccer competition is getting ready to kick off in earnest in 2023. It will be the 49th edition of the USYS National Championships.
Several new teams will join the league, including One Knoxville SC and Lexington SC. These two clubs are currently preparing for the new league, and the final draw for the 16-team Gold Cup will be held in the near future.
In addition to the national team, there will be a number of professional and amateur tournaments in 2023. There will be eight USYS National League events, including the USYS National Championships, the NISA Independent Cup, and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The spring tournament will serve as a crucial test for the USWNT and women’s national team. The tournament will take place at MLS venues, and will be one of the most important events in the lead-up to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
