When we think of a trekking peak in the Khumbu Valley or Everest base camp trek, we often think of Island Peak. Island Peak is very well known, after all, it is the oldest trekking peak in Nepal. However, Lobuche Peak is, in many ways, a much better destination than Island Peak.
What is Special About Lobuche Peak and Why is Lobuche Peak a Better Destination Than Island Peak? The trek from Dugla teahouses along the Everest Base Camp path to Lobuche base camp is lovely, traversing grassy meadows, and pretty lakes. Lobuche Peak has a beautiful green grassy basecamp, in the fields near Dzhongla Tea Houses. Near Lobuche base camp we can find small rock cliffs for fun practice rock climbing. Lobuche Peak is on the adventure trekking route to the Cho La Pass. Lobuche Peak has a lovely high camp with a picturesque lake. Lobuche Peak has a quick direct descent route from high camp straight down to Lobuche Village. From the summit of Lobuche Peak we can see stunning views of Mt Everest, Ama Dablam, Mt Nuptse and Mt. Lhotse.
Who Is This Trip For? Lobuche Peak is for the fit trekker who would like to be a trekking peak climber and who wants just a little bit more green pristine alpine beauty than there is to be found on Island Peak. However, just like on Island Peak, the climbing to the summit of Lobuche is really limited to only1 day.
