    Mole, also known as nevus or nevi, is situated on the largest organ of your body – the skin. It is considered a beauty spot that either occurs by birth or develops through the years. It can stay for 50 years on your skin and the color can range from your skin tone to brown and black. It is just a spot on the skin and doesn’t hurt, itch or bleed.     What is a mole?

     A mole is a painless spot on your skin or mucous membrane and has different colors. The mole can match your skin tone or be in shades of brown and black. It can occur singly or in clusters and may change a little with time but without bothering your skin. It can sometimes also have hair growth on them.

    What are the types of moles?

    There are primarily three types of mole and each is explained in brief below:

    1. Common Nevi: It is the normal mole that occurs on your body and can have colors like pink, tan and brown.
    2. Congenital Nevi: These are the mole that is discovered after birth and can become cancerous if it is wider than 8mm. It is not common and happens to 1 out of 100 people.
    3. Dysplastic Nevi: These are hereditary moles that are dark brown or black and are larger. 

    How common are moles?

    Can moles be removed?

    If you want to get your moles removed, you can consult your dermatologist. However, if the moles are not causing trouble or spreading you can skip the removal as it may leave a scar on your skin. 

    There are many scars and spots on your skin by birth and it is okay to cherish each one. Unless anything on your skin is causing pain, bleeding or itching, you should not be worried. And as moles are considered beauty spots, it sometimes also enhances the beauty of your face. Flaunting your scars is a beautiful choice and you should not feel awkward because of a mole on your skin.
