When it comes to reading world news, most of us often get depressed due to the constant churning or distressing world events. Be it politics, the economy, or simple day to day news headlines, it almost always feels like the world is ending. While browsing sites like
NetBet can be worthy distraction, everyday news can still get very gloomy.
Through these dark clouds, however, sometimes come stories that are the most heartwarming, fulfilling and inspiring examples of what humanity really is. These stories come from amazing people, who seem ordinary but are capable of achieving extraordinary feats. These feats allow them to make a stunning difference, not only in their own lifetime but they leave their legacy with other people who get to know their stories.
In this article, we’ll go through some of the most inspirational stories of 2023, that give us an idea of true human potential:
1. A New Perspective
As a vascular surgeon, Neil Hopper had performed multiple amputations throughout his career. Through the years of experience, they had become second nature to him, until sepsis hit.
What started as a feeling of being unwell, turned into blue toes, that ultimately turned into both his legs being amputated. For a successful and well-respected surgeon, this was devastating news. It should’ve brought his life and career to a halt.
However, Hopper used this as motivation to completely change his perspective on life. He believes his life became more interesting after this unfortunate incident. This new perspective has allowed him to explore things he simply ignored before and didn’t take out the time for. In a way, the illness that took his legs has given him an entirely new life.
2. Unstoppable Moms
Hearing that your child’s life will be shortened due to their illness is the most devastating news a mother can hear. It can result in isolation and depression.
A group made up of eight moms, however, proved that things didn’t really have to be this way. Getting to know each other at a children’s hospice, these moms formed a bond that was both remarkable and unmatchable. It resulted in them climbing literal mountains to symbolize their everyday journey, and showed everyone that there’s no mountain that can’t be climbed, whether literal or metaphorical.
3. Age Is Just a Number
The age old saying that describes age as just a number has had many examples to prove it. One such example this year was Michael Rimmer, a 56 year old who achieved a lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter.
It can be incredibly intimidating to adjust in an environment where you’re surrounded by people half your age, but Rimmer took this challenge head on. It proved worth it when he finally became a firefighter after an intensive 12 week course, showing once again that age is but a number.
4. Survival of the fittest
Giving up is just not an option for some people, and this was proven by 30 year old Jhonathan Acosta. While out on a hunting trip, Acosta got separated from his group and ended up getting lost in the Amazon jungle.
This would’ve meant the end for some of the strongest people in the world, but not for Acosta. All alone for a total of 31 days in the jungle of Amazon, he still managed to survive, by feeding up on worms and drinking rainwater. With no prior survival training, Acosta relied on his instincts to protect him from the wild, and his sheer determination allowed him to survive.
Conclusion
It’s important to read through stories that form a source of inspiration for anyone who comes across them. Not only do they provide motivation to elevate in life, but they also end up teaching readers important lessons about life.
